According to statistics, every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer.In the CharlestonTri-county area, approximately 367 women are diagnosed each year. The annual cost of breast cancer is around $11,440 for an average patient, which puts a tremendous financial stress on patients and their families. Share Our Suzy (SOS) is working to provide financial support for women going through breast cancer treatment in South Carolina, allowing them to focus solely on recovery.
SOS has helped provide multiple patients ranging in age with their own new prosthesis and bras, wigs and medications. The organization is devoted to helping whole families struggling through the hard time by providing them with financial support. SOS has assisted young mothers with medical costs, grandmothers with utilities and daughters with their mortgages. The ongoing goal of the organization is to provide support and assistance to these women as they undergo treatment for their breast cancer.
Share Our Suzy, a homegrown non-profit organization, has been established to honor the spirit of Suzy McGrane, who lost her battle with cancer in 2005, by raising money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients from diagnosis to remission. The grassroots non-profit is a virtual organization supported by friends and relatives of Suzy McGrane which allows it to cut administration expenses and donate 100% of the funds raised to patients. The organization’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for breast cancer patients in South Carolina.
The new addition to McCrady’s, the Gallery, will host the annual fundraiser for Share Our Suzy, It’s Black and White benefit, on Saturday, January 17, 2009 statring at 7pm. The event features live entertainment by Leah Suarez, a silent auction featuring works of art by local renowned artists, cocktails and scrumptious food prepared by the Gallery.
