Art Events Highlights in Charleston March 4-6, 2011

The most important event of this weekend is undoubtedly the BB&T Charleston Wine & Food Festival, March 3-6, 2011! Several events are still available but will sell out! A friend visiting Charleston asked me what was happening in the art world this weekend, so I figured I would highlight a couple of fun events that will compliment your food related activities!

The first Art Walk of the year, March 4, 5-8pm, always fun, always great weather, always huge crowds: check out “Cinnamonworld”at SCOOP, “Wandelust” at the Wells Gallery, Fred Jamar show “Night by Day” at Robert Lange Studios. “A Riff on Nests” Joe Walters’ first show in Charleston in many years opens at the Corrigan Gallery.

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Arts presents “Southern Stories” – three short films by Paul Harrill and Ashley Maynor. The film screening and Q & A will take place at 8 pm on Friday, March 4th in room 309 of the Simons Center for the Arts on 54 St. Philip St.

Check out the City Gallery on the Waterfront Park exhibit, on display are recent works from Cuba.

Pure Theatre has a new performance titled “Superior Donuts” opening this weekend as well.

Charleston Chamber Opera and the Gibbes Museum of Art are partnering for an afternoon of art and opera in the Gibbes Rotunda on Sunday, March 6 at 3pm.
